Pining..

Tired of writing lengthy blog posts (I can hear you saying the same thing !!);

When I was a kid, one of my favorite section in the local magazines was the one that had a series of pictures and let the reader assume the whole story for him/herself (படம் பார்த்து கதை சொல்க!). So this post is a similar attempt by me..

Watch (rather Listen to) the following videos in that order.. You should be able to get the same point that I wanted to convey through paragraphs after paragraph.

(Headphones recommended!)

(Credits to ILAYARAJAfan1 for the above video; And an audio version of the song is also available here.)

  1. Super Vicky!

I would have enjoyed this post better with the high quality mp3 files (just for the second and third videos). The youtube sound quality sucks! Nevertheless, I enjoyed this compilation.

Btw, are those the magical fingers I used to see at the CIT music club in 98-99?

  2. BM..
Thanks a lot.. Just found a better quality visual for "Yeh Shaam Ki" from e-snips and hence embedded that video. E-snips also has a better quality MP3 for "oru kanam". But I don't like their MP3 embedding widgets and hence for now leave the Youtube version as is . I will send you a lossless wav of Oru kanam if you want..

and yes.. the last clip was played by me.. aana magic ellam onnum illa. My playing is as creeking as my old keyboard. I vow to practice at least once a month.. but it remains just a vow.. and hence you see such substandard output.. but still I uploaded it because It was an unplugged performance with no particular scheme in mind.. Just went with the flow to demonstrate the spontaneous interoperability of two independent ideas..

  4. Hi Vicky,

A nice post and a nice medley as well. Raja's understaning of Indian film music is very deep and he seems to have been inspired by the great masters. He has said so in a couple of stage shows.

Even in his Italy concert Raja sings 'ye sham ki tanhahiyan' and tells the sudience that Shankar Jaikishen are able to convey an universal feeling of separation by their tune.

  5. @ Ramesh:
Thanks Ramesh. As discussed I will try to record the audio output of Keyboard directly into the computer.. hopefully that will eliminate the 'noise' next time (if I play and upload something..)

    @ Suresh:
Thanks a lot. Yes.. It was through the Live In Italy song that I was introduced to this tune. Had I been on the "story mode", this anecdote would have made it too.. So thanks for filling in :-)

  7. Dear Usha:

    Thanks once again..
This post is just for a change.. I suppose writing is much easier than getting down to the shop floor and greasing the cuffs; So surely the frequency of that would outweigh playing any given day :-)

  9. hi V Subu,
    Nostalgic!
You were awsome. Pardon this, much delayed compliment.
Lets forget the key striking 'noise'.
Trust you are doing fine and 'give us another one , just like the other one--'
